This goes out to everyone who thought it could never happen in their lifetime -- that the very idea that an African-American could be chosen to lead the country's highest office. As CNN's Donna Brazile writes, not only is it about to happen, but will come true not because of Barack Obama's ethnicity, but, as Dr. King long ago dreamed, for the content of his character and the strength of his ideas.

Yes ma'am, yes I am. Enough of the politics of the past... if the older generation and older politicians were truly concerned for the future or future generations, then they would listen to and honor OUR voices. There is no doubt that Obama's campaign has created a fervor amongst young adults who want to take ownership in a new direction for America, and it is in our vested interest to make sure it happens. I would like to take a moment to commend ALL of those young voters out there who have voted already or plan on standing in lines at the polls all day long if it takes that - we deserve Barack Obama to make this country a nation of leaders once again. Once this happens, we must not stop, or become complacent ever again... we've seen what happens to us when that happens. Our individual rights gets smushed, the most evil reflection of a few zealots take advantage of the naiton by coercing and blackmailing us into a misguided war, which is not an accurate reflection of the people of this nation who otherwise are left out of the loop in the decision-making process... not anymore... not anymore. Our time is NOW.
Dear Donna:
Sen. Obama is on the verge of making history, not because of the color of his skin, but because he and Joe Biden are leading the greatest political realignment of this country in nearly three decades.
As an avid Obama supporter, I urge Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to join in on this historic journey. The next four years will be difficult, but as an America united, we will succeed.
I don't expect an October surprise, as your former boss, Al Gore did, or as my former boss US Rep Jim Cooper did in a Tennessee US Senate race (Rep. Cooper was up 17% in June.)
Polls don't elect, people do.
I am proud to be an "Obama Democrat."
Jim Gray
