On the heels of John McCain's angry -- is there any other word to describe him these days? -- admonishment of Congressman and Civil Rights icon John Lewis's statement that the temperament at the latest McCain-Palin rallies is reminding him of the ones former presidential candidate and segregationist George Wallace once held, here is New York Times columnist Frank Rich weighing in on how the GOP candidates are doing nothing to stop the terrorist atmosphere.

"Obama can hardly be held accountable for Ayers’s behavior 40 years ago, but at least McCain and Palin can try to take some responsibility for the behavior of their own supporters in 2008. What’s troubling here is not only the candidates’ loose inflammatory talk but also their refusal to step in promptly and strongly when someone responds to it with bloodthirsty threats in a crowded arena." --Frank Rich, New York Times, Sun.
