CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY IN OREGON SUSPENDS FOUR STUDENTS FOR FAUX OBAMA LYNCHING

Lest we forget the steep hill we all still must climb, as Americans, to overcome racial hatred, read this Associated Press report from a Pacific Northwest college campus. Thankfully, university officials swiftly acted to catch the culprits and the FBI is also on the case.

NBC POLITICAL DIRECTOR: 'BUCKEYE BONANZA' MAY HELP OBAMA

More good news from the battleground state of Ohio, which could help put our candidate over the top, as reported by NBC's Chuck Todd...

*** A Buckeye bonanza for Dems? Early voting begins today in the battleground of Ohio, as well as in Nebraska. Lost in the news of yesterday’s bailout failure and the plummeting Dow was a court decision in Ohio that could have big implications in the presidential race. In a 4-3 decision, the Ohio Supreme Court upheld same-day voter registration and absentee ballot casting -- a ruling that could help Obama in the state. "The outcome of the court battles is likely to benefit Democrats in a state that narrowly awarded President Bush re-election in 2004," the AP writes. "Obama's campaign has organized car pools beginning Tuesday from college campuses to early voting sites. The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless is ferrying voters from homeless shelters to polling sites in the Cleveland area. Other organizations that seek to increase poor and minority participation in elections are transporting voters from low-income neighborhoods. The targeted voters have all traditionally had a harder time getting registered, and then getting to polling places on Election Day. Thanks to Monday's court decisions, these Democratic-leaning voters can do it all at once."

MORON OF THE YEAR: SMALL-TOWN S.C. MAYOR WONDERS IF OBAMA IS 'THE ANTI-CHRIST'

Here now is a story about a man who seriously shouldn't be allowed out on the street by himself. How voters in Fort Mill, S.C. could've voted in this complete imbecile for this mayor defies reason. He actually sent out a chain email, in which he wonders if Barack Obama is the anti-Christ. I honestly feel sorry for anyone in this town who has this buffoon as its leader. Read on.

BREAKING NEWS: POLLS NOW SHOW VIRGINIA, NORTH CAROLINA LEANING OBAMA!

How about that? One political dashboard, attached here in the link, is turning blue. Colorado and New Mexico are now showing as solid blue for Obama, with two more crucial southern states, once solidly red for McCain, now turning blue.
But although we're moving closer to victory with each passing day -- can't wait to see the bounce after Sarah Palin bombs in Thursday night's debate with Joe Biden -- we can't let up! Spread the word and help register unregistered voters in your area.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, HERE'S LAST NIGHT'S DEBATE

Before you watch, it's important to know that in major polls conducted by CNN and the Wall Street Journal, Obama handily wins -- 51 to 38 percent by CNN's count and 55to 40 percent by the Journal's. What's even more striking is a CNN poll showing that among women, Obama was chosen as the winner by 59 percent to 31 percent. On the matter of fixing the economy -- which, the last time anyone alive American checked, is the most impotant issue our country faces -- Obama won that debate 58 to 37 percent. And although Newsweek blogger Andrew Romano says McCain "won, sort of," he writes, of McCain's behavior: "He scowled, smirked and refused to look at his rival, conveying an air of condescension that could turn off some undecideds. He twisted the facts in a few of his responses, including the ones on the Eisenhower letters and his Lebanon vote. He compared Obama to Bush, which is laughable. (Obama laughed.) And he seemed overeager to say that his opponent didn't 'understand' the issues--despite ample evidence to the contrary."
Here's the entire debate, courtesy of CNN, which you can watch in three parts.

Contrary to popular belief, Americans can indeed vote, even if they have no permanent adress. Sounds like a prime registering opportunity to me.

CONSERVATIVE ICON GEORGE WILL RIPS MCCAIN

Wow. First the Wall Stret Journal took a swing at John McCain. But if you're a Republican you know you're in deep trouble if writer and commentator George Will, the patron saint of conservatives, blasts you. Though it's a few days old, here's what Will says in a nationally syndicated column, of McCain's initial public backing away from last night's debate, courtesy of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

BARACK SCORES GOOD MARKS IN DEBATE FROM INDEPENDENTS

John McCain better watch it when he keeps saying "you don't understand" to Barack Obama. Turns out independent voters don't like that kind of thing. In fact, many see it as condescending. And those indie voters, it turns out, do think Obama understands -- and that he's on their side and is indeed ready to be president. Here's another Time magazine story, this one examines the thoughts of a group of uncommitted voters in the battleground state of Missouri.

TIME EDITOR GIVES BARACK AN A- IN DEBATE PERFORMANCE; GIVES MCCAIN A B-

So far, the news is good from the debate front. CNN analyst David Gergen said all Obama needed to do was to hold his ground on foreign policy (John McCain's acknowledged strong point), but that McCain badly needed -- but didn't get -- the clear debate victory he sought. Meanwhile, Time magazine editor Mark Halperin gives high marks to Obama in his performance.

Here are Halperin's stories, with Obama's review first, then McCain's.

DIMESTORE MAVERICK: MCCAIN LED BY CAPITOL HILL HERD AT BAILOUT TALKS

John McCain talked big game the other day, like the quintessential cowboy in the classic western in the white hat who told us all: "Fear not, dear citizens, I shall ride into town and bring the government to its senses." He tried to convince us that by suspending his campaign (while his attack ads on Barack Obama have continued airing) and postponing a presidential debate, he was being magnanamous and putting the country first. Novel idea, considering his political party never did in its eight years of ineptitude. So what did McCain do at meetings in Washington (where, by the way, Obama was)? More listening than the leading he's tried to convince the country he's doing. Here's a detailed analysis in the New York Times. Face it: the closest McCain could ever come to being a maverick is if he ran the courts with the Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki. Well, maybe he'll do that, as the NBA season starts right around Election Day. Hopefully by Nov. 5, McCain will have lots of free time on his hands.

MAKING A STATEMENT: OBAMA SAYS NO TO MC CAIN DEBATE PULLOUT, CALLS FRIDAY'S SCHEDULED EVENT 'MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER'

So John McCain has always said no to pulling American troops out of Iraq.
But when it comes to honoring an agreement he signed to debate his opponent, Barack Obama? McCain calls for his own withdrawal.
Obama flatly rejected McCain's political maneuver and is going ahead with debate preparations.
Who would you rather have as president?
Someone with the capacity to ruminate on the country's biggest problems and strongly advocate his positions in a debate, or someone who calls timeout and absconds from the discussion?
With this move, McCain, with his attack ads and cut-and-run tactics has deteriorated into a professional wrestling heel—a villain who in the theatrics of the action, smashes in the good guy's head with a steel chair, then when he's just about to get a whuppin' of his own, he flees the ring.
Just who is Barack Obama's opponent: John McCain or Rowdy Roddy Piper?

This is unreal.
Two days before the first scheduled presidential debate in Oxford, Mississippi, everybody's fired up and moments ago, Mr. Wet Blanket himself wants to call the whole thing off, saying that everyone should now focus on the economy.
Sorry, Johnny, but guess what? As we're all sometimes reminded by our loved ones, it's not cool to change the subject, no matter how difficult and it's definitely not cool to bail on a conversation that needs to be had.

WHY ISN'T BARACK PULLING AWAY IN THE POLLS? NEW STUDY CONFIRMS OLD FEARS

We're in the midst of an unpopular occupation of a sovereign nation in an unpopular war. The cost of everything from gasoline to groceries is through the roof. A housing crisis has caused a record number of foreclosures. As banks bail out big bsuinesses, Wall Street is more turbulent than ever before and people are panicking about the state of their pocketbooks. The current president is the country's most unpopular in history and there are major questions about his party's nominees for the top two spots.
So why isn't Barack Obama running away with a commanding lead in the polls?
While some of us who read this blog insist we know exactly why, some will be sincerely shocked to read the results of a new Associated Press poll, showing that if perceptions and attitudes toward African Americans among white repsondents hold, Barack Obama would lose his bid for the presidency because of their misgivings about blacks.
Like most everything else in our country about race and ethnicity, the poll results are paradoxical. Aftr all, Obama couldn't possibly be in the position he's in without the white support and votes he garnered throughout the Democratic parties, in which he triumphed over his two closest -- and white -- opponents, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.
Last night on "Real Time" on HBO, white conservative commentator Andrew Sullivan of the Atlantic Monthly -- who prefers Obama -- told host Bill Maher that shifting demographics, or what some refer to as the "browning" of America, scares some white Americans.
"Obama represents the futre," Sullivan said. "And whether America is ready for it in two months or several years from now, remains to be seen."
But black rapper will.i.am, of the multiracial hip-hop trio Black Eyed Peas held out hope, telling Maher on the same show that unfavorable attitudes among whites ages 18 to 39 toward blacks are rare and cited Obama's support among that demographic, which this year has registered to vote in record numbers. Will their votes overwhelm those of people who aren't ready for an African-American president?
Whatever your views are and whatever your heritage, the story below is a must-read that inspires discussion. So please comment and join the conversation.

WALL STREET JOURNAL SLAMS MCCAIN FOR SCAPEGOATING SEC CHAIR

I'll let CNN's Jack Cafferty introduce this next story...

From CNN's Jack Cafferty:

When you graduate 894th out of a class of 899, eventually it will show up.
And John McCain’s mediocre performance at the Naval Academy is showing up big time this week in his total lack of understanding of the nation’s financial crisis.
He told us he didn’t know much about the economy… now he’s proving it.
So much so that the Wall Street Journal, perhaps America’s leading financial publication, is blasting McCain over what its editorial board sees as inaccurate and, quote, “unpresidential” comments about the crisis in America’s financial system.
If you’re a Republican running for president of the United States and the Wall Street Journal basically says you’re an incompetent buffoon, you’re in serious trouble.

Specifically the paper pointed to comments McCain made yesterday about SEC Chair Christopher Cox. McCain pointed the finger at Cox and said if he were president, he’d fire him for “betraying the public’s trust.” The Wall Street Journal called that assault “both false and deeply unfair.” The Journal also said, “In a crisis voters want steady, calm leadership… not easy, misleading answers that will do nothing to help.”

Here's the whole story.

RACE: HOW LOW CAN YOU GO? TIME SAYS MCCAIN'S NEW ATTACK AD ON OBAMA PLAYS INTO RACIAL STEREOTYPES

Some of you out there may not be old enough to remember Willie Horton, the African-American man who, after a prison work release, committed a heinous crime and whose TV image became an indelible icon in George H.W. Bush's 1988 attack ads on Democratic opponent, Michael Dukakis.

Now, 20 years later, according to Time magazine, John McCain is employing the same tactics, only this time likening an African-American Fannie Mae executive to mugging a senior white woman. What's even worse is the lie that this Fannie Mae exec was or is an adviser to Barack Obama.
